Adjusting To The Mini-Retirement

I've been neglecting this blog lately. There's been a lot of changes and adjustments to our mini-retirement and I've had a case of "what to talk about????" more than a few times.

There are a few things I would have changed with the mini-retirement.

  1. Have more work done before I left. Too many unexpected things came up that prevented me from working. I should have done most of it before I left to things could just tick over. There was too much of an expectation that I could get more done in a different routine (without internet connections at times).
  2. The Details! Not enough details sorted out - how I would work and where, internet connections, etc. Sorting these details out consumed a lot of time.
  3. Childcare. We have it way too good living in a daycare where we can drop off our son anytime we need to concentrate on work. He's a precocious (soon to be) 3 year old and demands attention. Our expectations on taking care of him was too low. Of course, we expected to be able to drop him off with my mother more often and didn't expect her to be in the middle of moving house.

Lessons learned. I'm looking forward to moving the business forward again now that things are a bit more settled.
