AWeber Help

I recently started a new subscriber list on AWeber. To join the list, you visit a squeeze page where I will give you a free product in exchange for your email address.

Not a single person who has signed up on the squeeze page has confirmed their subscription. Right now that stands at 30+ people. And since I'm paying for the traffic to this page, it's imperative that get those people onto my list.

I've tried a few different things, - changing the email address it's sent from, changing the display name, adding is a bright red reminder on the first thank you page for them to check their email to confirm the message before they can receive their gift, different wording - but I suspect that my mails aren't even getting to the people.

My other lists (in the same market) are double opting in just fine. Maybe it's just this source of traffic? Anyone else had problems with double opt ins with traffic from Google Adwords?

Does anyone have some suggestions on how best to get people to opt in?

Very strange. Sounds like something technical at fault here — can't think of any reason why Google Adwords opt-in should be any different… (and I've never seen that for my own or clients AWeber opt-ins from GA.)

I would query your keywords but the fact people are initially opting in says they're targeted phrases so it can't be that.

Two suggestions —

1) One thing I started doing recently is using GA's Goal Conversion Funnel Analysis on the steps to verified opt-in — very useful in tweaking the verify message and seeing the effect.

2) Split-test the first thank you page (put conversion code on final thank you page).

3) Maybe a daft suggestion but are you sure there's no wording in the verification message thats getting caught by spam filters? (NB: The "Scunthorpe clause" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scunthorpe_Problem :-)

Beyond that - if you want me to take a more detailed look I'd be happy to help.

I've actually had the same problem before. My first 10 subscribers didn't confirm. Then, out of the blue, they started confirming. I'm still only at about 70% opt-in, and some opt-in like 5 days later. I refuse to believe people are just that dumb, but it appears to be the only justification I had.

When I was in a network marketing business, I just did single opt-in. My spam complaint ratio was around 1.2%… way too high, and my response rate was very low anyway.

It's unfortunate, but the people who don't confirm, you don't want them anyway. You want people who are begging for your product.

I'd double check the whole message to market funnel. If you find a leak, plug it:

What are the people looking for when they search for your keywords - free info or possibly a paid solution?

Does that demographic want to be subscribed to another ezine?

Does the confirmation email say something to turn them off?

Are you offering a premium for subscribing? (I know I've opted in on squeeze pages for the sole reason of getting to see the main sales letter or to get the special report. I don't usually confirm subscriptions to those because I don't want to be followed up on.)
