Linking To Other Sites

Have you wondered why you should link to other's sites? Really, why send your visitors to other peoples sites?

It's A Service.

The simple and main reason is as a service to your visitors.

The links you provide should connect your visitors to valuable and relevant content. There is no way any single person or site can be the be all and end all of information on any topic. There's just too much information out there.

Once you are seen as a place where they can go as a resource and a gateway to other sites, your visitors will return to your site for information or links time and time again. They'll either find the information on your site or will be confident you will link to accurate content on the topics you have not or do not cover.

Quite simply, linking can allow you to build loyalty.

How do you create outgoing links?

The most direct way is by using the html href tag.

Linking with the html href tag.

If you're blogging, most blogging platforms have a button on the writing editor that allows you create a link. Select a bit of text, click the button, it opens another window, drop in the url you want to link to and click ok. You're done!

You can also wrap links around images, so that when the image is clicked, the clicker is taken to a new website.

Links are a vital part of the internet and the internet community. If you aren't linking enough, it's likely you won't be linked to. So start providing valuable content to your visitors by sending them away.

To paraphrase an old saying: If you want someone to stay, send them away.  If they return to you - they are yours, if not - they never were.
